Tips & Tricks for Easter Rice Krispie Treats

Stir Between Each Heat Cycle

Heating your butter and marshmallows should be a gradual process. Melting them in short 30-45-second heat cycles is key. In between each heat cycle, simply stir the marshmallows and butter to distribute the heat more evenly. Make sure to not over-cook your butter and marshmallows or they will burn.

Work Fast

One thing about rice krispie treats is that you need to work fairly fast to form them. You'll find that placing them into the plastic eggs doesn't take long if you've prepared them ahead of time. I like to make one color of rice krispie treats at a time to prevent them from getting too hard before I've formed them.

Don't Pack Too Much

Packing too much krispie mixture into the egg containers can create very dense and chewy treats. You want to press the cereal mixture enough to ensure it stays together, but not so much cereal into each half of the egg that your treats become too dense to eat!

Variations to Easter Rice Krispie Treats

Instead of using a plastic Easter egg, grab some Easter-themed cookie cutters to use. Press the treats into a 9x13 casserole dish, then cookie-cut out shapes.

Add Sprinkles

Add in a few festive Easter sprinkles to add more texture and color to your krispie treats. Feel free to use any sprinkles you want!

Chocolate

After you make your Easter egg treats, you can dip them into melted chocolate. You could also drizzle chocolate over the top to decorate the eggs a bit.

Easter Rice Krispie Treat FAQs

Why are my rice krispie treats hard?

Pressing your treats into the egg moulds too much can cause your treats to be hard. But if you over-heat the marshmallow mixture-whether in microwave or in a pot on the stove-this will also cause your treats to be harder than normal.

Why are my rice krispie treats falling apart?

Too little cereal mixture in your egg moulds will cause your treats to fall apart. If that's the case, you can try to pack the treats a bit more tightly into the plastic eggs. You could also try adding extra cereal to the marshmallow mixture and working it in.

How should you store rice krispie treats?

You can store your krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature. The treats will store for 5-7 days. After that, the treats will begin to dry out a bit.
