Tips & Tricks for Lettuce Wrap Burgers

ingredients for assembling lettuce wrap burgers

Cooking Burgers

You can grill your hamburgers or cook them in a skillet-it's up to you! I used the skillet method for ease. Just make sure that to heat up your pan so you get a nice sear.

Forming Patties

When breaking up the meat, aim to make similarly sized patties. This will help all of your hamburger patties to cook evenly.

Lettuce Buns

Use larger pieces of lettuce for your "buns." That way, your lettuce is more likely to stay firm and wrap around the burger patty. You're less likely to have a big mess on your hands while eating these burgers if your lettuce wraps all the way around!

Variations to Lettuce Wrap Burgers

Meat

I used ground beef for my burgers, but you can also use ground turkey, meatless burgers, etc. Just cook them as you would normally, serve, and enjoy!

Toppings

Feel free to add or take off toppings to your taste. Try adding some sliced purple onions, pepper jack cheese, or even some bacon! Create a custom burger that you will enjoy.

What is the best lettuce to use for these burgers?

Iceberg, Boston, or Bibb lettuce are the top varieties to use for making lettuce burgers. Feel free to whichever type of lettuce you would like.

How many lettuce leaves do you use for a burger?

Generally, you will use 2-3 leaves per burger. If you have larger burger patties, you will, of course, use more leaves to keep your burger toppings and condiments from coming out and making a mess.

How do you wash lettuce but still keep it crispy?

You can use a lettuce spin system, or you can rinse your lettuce in a large bowl. Add a teaspoon of vinegar to a bowl of water to help remove any microbes on the lettuce leaves. After swishing your leave in the bowl of water, rinse well in cold water, then shake off remaining water or pat dry with a paper towel.
